On October 10th, Tesla will finally unveil its Robotaxi strategy. Here are a few interesting details:
The event will be called “We, Robot” - likely a tribute to Asimov’s short story “I, Robot”
The event will take place in Warner Bros Discovery’s movie Studios in California, which is a bit of a change. Tesla usually hosts these events at one of its facilities. We should thus be expecting a lot of Special Effects and Science Fiction to come into play! So Elon!
Below are some snippets of what the Media and Investment community are speculating:
Unveiling of the “Cybercab”: This may be a two-door, two-seater, Cybertruck-looking car, imagined in Elon’s biography by Walter Isaacson as per below:
Our own artistic interpretation is given as per below:
Given the event will take place in Discovery Studios, it’s probably a good place to demonstrate the autonomous driving in a “closed-loop” safe environment. I’m sure that the Tesla fanbois will assume that it’s going to be as accurate out in the “wild” (spoiler alert: it won’t).
Given the event is called “We, Robot”, it doesn’t need much imagination to assume that Tesla’s Primus humanoid will appear on stage at some point. I hope it’s not a guy in a suit again...
Model 2 update: Some are expecting an update on Tesla’s cheap EV, which Tesla fanbois have labelled the Model 2. The little detail why such announcement is possible, is that according to previous comments by Tesla, the Robotaxi and the Model 2 may share the same platform (article here)
Other wildcards include a potential Commercialization Strategy for Robotaxis, such as a partnership with Uber and even McDonald’s for food delivery services
My first reaction is that this is a “Sell the News” Event. Unfortunately, Barron’s thinks the same…
…so scrap that and lets discuss something potentially more interesting…
